Route Itinerary

Day 1

Machame Gate to Machame Camp

Trek through dense rainforest filled with tropical vegetation. Camp at Machame Camp (3,000m) on the edge of the forest zone.

Day 2

Machame Camp to Shira 2 Camp

Ascend steeply into moorland with increasingly open views of Kibo Peak. Cross onto the Shira Plateau and camp at Shira 2 (3,850m).

Day 3

Shira 2 to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

Acclimatization day via Lava Tower (4,600m) before descending into the scenic Barranco Valley. Camp at Barranco (3,960m).

Day 4

Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Climb the famous Barranco Wall — a non-technical but exciting scramble — then traverse to Karanga Camp (4,035m).

Day 5

Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Reach Barafu Camp (4,640m), the base camp for summit night. Rest and prepare equipment for the midnight ascent.

Day 6

Summit Day to Uhuru Peak & Mweka Camp

Midnight ascent to Stella Point and Uhuru Peak (5,895m) for sunrise. Descend to Mweka Camp (3,100m) for recovery.

Day 7

Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

Final descent through rainforest to Mweka Gate. Receive your summit certificate and return to Arusha or Moshi.
